Listening to Belinda Carlisle's "Summer Rain" I was hit with the inspiration bug. I had visions of a clean Skyline R34 and a pretty girl, dancing in the evening summer rain. Her fragile sundress sticking to her glistening wet body...
To set this shoot up I had to organize several aspects. First I found my model, Kaz Angelo. I had shot with Kaz previously and knew she had the perfect acting skills to get the emotion right. I than found the perfect car. Who just so happened to have the perfect name "WHTNYT" (for those not sure what that translates to - White Knight.)
I left Kaz to find the perfect little summer dress and lucky for me she is also talented with her own hair and makeup.
I chose a warehouse location for this shoot. the warehouse has clean floors and a huge door that opens up to the outside. It also has access to 2 fire hoses. I had a friend use the hoses to get everything wet and also spray water behind Kaz and the R34.
I only used 2 studio lights as I was lucky to have the setting sun as a backlight. I used the lights to fill in the scene in front.
I shot with a Canon 5d markii and a 100mm 2.8. If you go to my Facebook-Insta profile you will be able to see behind the scenes, which were shot by my friend Phonix Photography.
I took multiple shots to get all the scene in as I knew I would be stiching the shots together to get the whole image.
EDITING: The process for this photo is a lengthy one. I first do some lightroom tweeks to all photos. This includes opening up shadows and bring down highlights and fixing white balance. In CS I stitch the photos together and than begin on removing any distracting elements. Use "Frequency Separation" for skin adjustments. Now for the fun part, I needed more water drops and puddles. I used free stock photos of water drops on window glass and pasted them into the image. I finding using screen on the layer and than playing with levels you can get the right effect. This is time consuming as you don't want to be repetitive. I used this on the car and on Kaz. I than added reflective water puddles by copying half image and mirroring it below. Adding a displace effect and you have the results. A lot of tweaking with colors and gamma to get the final effect.
I hope enjoy this image as much as I did making it come to life.
