The B-29 was designed as a "Hemisphere Defense Weapon." The B-29 carried more bombs, higher, farther and faster than any other bomber of World War II. Over 4,000 Super Fortresses were built and many continued to serve the U.S. Air Force into the early 1950s as bombers, reconnaissance planes, and as refueling tankers. The historic B-29 "Sentimental Journey" is preserved and on display at the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona
