Mount St Helens also known as Louwaia-Clough is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington in the Pacific NW. A segment of the "Ring of Fire". This volcano is known for its ash explosions and pyroclastic flows. Notorious for its major 1980 eruption, the deadliest and most economic destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States. The scars are healing. Many lessons have been learned by ecologists over this 30 year long natural experiment to see how the ecosystem recovers.
