Lovely portrait. Great light and pose. I find the bright light around her right hand a bit of a distraction. Congrats to you and the model.

The light on her right hand is deliberate. It is to balance out the rule of thirds and to add dimension to the image that is more natural. Putting a separation light directly behind creates a halo that looks forced and not natural at all. The light gives a subtle rim light to her body on her right side, while her left arm is lit up. This is all to balance out the rule of thirds and the overall image itself.

Exceptional use of the rule of thirds, not too many know what it is or how to use it

Location
I took this in my studio located in my home. I have limited space, but try to do as much as I can possibly do in that space. Getting creative is key in adapting to any situation.Time
This was during the day, sometime around 2pm. The model and I had worked together before, but not in the studio. So this was our first run at working very closely together. We have always been able to create together, so this was a great day of shooting, and trying different ideas. We worked close to 5 hours getting many very interesting and various shots using different types of props and outfits.Lighting
This lighting is something I created to get a more in depth and personal intimacy. It is sort of a clam shell set up, only using reflectors and honeycomb on a beauty dish. It gives a dramatic effect, and picked up all the highlights very well, and draped the shadows.Equipment
Camera was a Nikon D810, using a Nikon 85mm 1.8f Lens, Manfrotto tripod, and Paul Buff Einstein 640W heads. Paul C. Buff 30" Beauty Dish with Honeycomb.Inspiration
This was inspired by paintings I had seen in Europe on my travels. I usually always visit museums and historic landmarks to discover older style culture, art, and architecture. Many of the ideas I incorporate are that of paintings I've seen that date back to the 15th & 16th centuries. To add a modern twist on the old world masters, I add things like hair blowing and ornate accessories to give a regal, elegant feel that is natural and not stiff. I love the beauty of a woman who is naturally calm and subtle in her gestures.Editing
Post was a bit of toning, some dodge and burning in RAW, then brought into PS for more blending and toning. Highlights and sharpening of fine details. In my camera bag
Nikon D810, Nikon lenses, rags, lens cleaner, brush, plastic bags, hat.Feedback
Experimentation is the best method. I could go into details on how exactly to do this setup, all of the settings, lighting arrangements. All that would do is have the person copy this same idea. I spent hours moving lights around, camera setting changes, light output power changes, light modifying. It really helps to have a model who is willing to experiment and enjoys creating as much as you do. Time flies by a lot faster, and the real creativity starts after about 3 hours.
