Years ago I became familiar with the plight of the Monarch Butterflies. With the building booms in the US they were quickly losing their natural habitats. So, being a fan, I devoted an area of my PA property to them. With a water source already there, I put in the proper plants and waited. The first couple of years even as we headed south for the Winter there was little to report on the Monarch Habitat we were trying to establish. Year 3 there was a Monarch Boom beyond what I could have imagined, So much so that when the time came for the "Monarch Migration" considered "one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world," many of our trees became landing zones for swarms of Monarch as they gathered together to head south. I spent almost an entire week outside shooting film. My husband spent the week shooting me as I was often covered with butterflies who seemed to have enjoyed their summer in the mountains...
