Location
This was taken on the shore of Lake Huron, at the tip of the thumb in Michigan.Time
This was sunset. The evening was warm and a little muggy, but the colours were beautiful!Lighting
This was natural light only, kind of obviously :)Equipment
A Nikon D600 and 60mm lens.Inspiration
I love sunsets, and especially over water. The wave was breaking on a concrete slab, so I lay in the sand to get a low angle, and wanted to catch the sun through the water. Every time the wave rose up there was a great noise - the boom of the wave followed a moment late by the water splatting down onto the concrete. My aim was to capture that same rhythmic sound and motion in the image.Editing
I cropped a little to draw the eye to the sun and the circle of water around it, and tweaked the exposure to bring out the contrasting colours. In my camera bag
I've now switched to a D750, and carry a variety of lenses. My 60mm macro is my favourite of all, and I tend to default to it!Feedback
Risk getting a little damp and lay on the beach to get a lovely low angle on sunsets! Any time I see waves breaking like this, I get low and see if I can capture the backlit water - it has sense a wonderful sense of motion!
