This photo was shot in my backyard in Nashville Tennessee. I strive to plant flowers that attract butterflies, bees and Hummingbirds. I'm a very busy person with 4 Grandbabies here during the day, so I've created my own photo studio.Time
This was an early evening shot after a rain storm. We get these pop up thunderstorms that create beautiful natural light with the sun and black clouds.Lighting
Most of my best photos are shot with natural light. My post processing needs a lot of work, so I do very little. Maybe some cropping. I try to shoot outside as much as possible. My favorite is after a rain storm. My family knows if it's raining and I grab my camera we are all heading outside.Equipment
My camera of choice is a Canon. Currently I am using a 70D. This was actually shot with the kit lens, 55-250mm.Inspiration
Colors, colors, colors! We have such deep vivid colors late in the season. Rain just adds even more depth.Editing
Again, post processing is still an art I am struggling with. Did do a tad bit of cropping. In my camera bag
In the beginning, I carried everything I own. After a serious shoulder strain carrying it all around Savannah Georgia for a day I have definitely reduced what I use every day. My current camera is the Canon 70D with additional battery pack. My trusty 55-250 mm Canon lens, 28-300mm Tamron and a 18-55 Canon.Feedback
My first experience with butterflies was in a sanctuary. These girls love to pose and hold still, as if to say 'like this, more to the left?'. ( Don't ask me why, but in my head all butterflies speak with a French accent.). So naturally my first thought was, this is a piece of cake. Then I was introduced to the natural bug world. It became a sprint and this Grandma does not sprint. My best advice, find a flower garden they are attracted to and sit very still. They will come. Above all, have fun. This is the digital age after all. Nobody needs to know how many you shot for this one special photo. Unless your livelihood depends on that one perfect opportunity where you get one chance, just go for it. The more you shoot the better you will become. This is a fun, creative outlet. Enjoy!!
