Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my garden at my home in Nashville, Tennessee. Since my photography centers around nature I have created my on pollinator gardens to attract them.

Time

Early evening is my favorite time of day. The Bumbles are a little slow and lazy right before dusk. This little lady had just left a cosmos heading for home.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect, all natural. This image is just as it was shot. The blurred purples and greens from the other flowers made a perfect background.

Equipment

I use a Canon 70D, hand held.

Inspiration

I sit in my gardens with my camera at the ready since you never know what unexpected opportunity comes your way.

Editing

On this particular shot, no post-processecing was needed. The way it is, is how it was shot.

In my camera bag

I have used a canon from the very beginning. My first one was a Rebel, which took amazing pictures. I now shoot with a Canon 70D , which is my third upgrade. I have various lenses in my bag at all times. The one important thing I have learned over the years is invest in quality lenses.

Feedback

Photographing nature, especially small insects and birds, requires a lot of patience. By creating my own natures photo studio I'm able to sit quietly amongst the flowers, sip on ice tea and wait for an opportunity to fly by. Above all, have fun. For most of us this is a delightful hobby that enables us to create long lasting memories. Remember, don't be afraid to delete the ones you didn't like.
