Love the capture of the blue in his feathers. Would love to be able to get a shot like that.

These kingfishers are so quick, the photographer must prefocus on a spot on the top of the water where they think the kingfisher will dive. You also must fight the urge to change the direction of your lens or the reflection may spook the kingfisher.Equipment
Canon 1DX DSLR, 500 mm Canon 1:4 L IS II Lens, Manfrotto Tripod with Gimbal-head.Inspiration
Bird photography is one of my favorite types of photography, This birds are a beautiful color, they are very fast and have lots of personality.Editing
Post processing included development in Lightroom and removing some overly bright areas in the water. In my camera bag
I alway have my Canon 500 mm lens for bird photography but also include my 100-400 Canon lens if possible. If traveling while taking photos of birds, I will include the Canon 24-105 lens in case a landscape moment appears.Feedback
My husband researches our traveling. You can find many photos of these kingfishers online. However, he searched until he found our guide, Ron McComb, and spent lots of time asking him questions about what birding experiences we could have in Scotland.
