Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken inside the home of the parents of our daughter's college roommate.

Time

This photo was taken in the morning, after we finished breakfast and were preparing to head out for the day.

Lighting

The lighting was a mixture of artificial lighting from inside the house and natural light from the windows. No flash was used.

Equipment

Shot with my Lumix G-85 mirrorless camera using an Olympus 15-150 mm zoom lens, set in B&W mode.

Inspiration

The dog was just sitting on the stairway landing watching us. He looked content, and I wanted to see if I could capture a bit of his personality, so I got my camera at his face level and framed the shot as he watched.

Editing

While the photo was shot using the camera's built in B&W mode, no additional post processing was done after capture.

In my camera bag

We were heading out to watch our daughters compete in a collegiate equestrian competition, so I had my camera with the zoom lens mounted to shoot the event.

Feedback

Animals can be unpredictable, so patience can be required to get good shots. In this case, the dog's curiosity about what I was doing kept him focused on me, which allowed me to frame a nice canine portrait.
