While this is a composite photo consisting of a lion and a wasp recorded separately, I have watched lions many times in the field being bothered by flies while trying to rest. It is not uncommon for a single persistently bothersome fly to be snapped at, usually without success. Sometimes the distraction becomes so great that a lion will leap up and run away.
