A massive flock of Snow Geese (and Ross' Geese) blastoff at once in Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge (near San Antonio, NM). The blastoff is a spectacle when thousands of these geese simultaneously lift off in a cacophony of sound! I planned this shot ahead of the blastoff by shooting with my Canon 500mm f-4 USM IS, plus a 1.4x teleconverter on my Canon 7D Mark II at 1-13 second, f-20 (for depth of focus) and ISO 800 (it was early morning and low light). Shooting on a gilbal head, I wanted the motion blur, but also to see the depth of the birds in the flock. I panned as they took off, which allowed for many of the birds' to be discernible among the blur. The f-20 aperture helped see "into" the flock.
