Behind The Lens

Location

I found this plant in my front garden. I took a couple of standard photos of it and then had a thought. Why not see if I could get the setting sun behind it? I had to lay on the ground to get the placement the way I wanted it and then shot away. This was the best shot of the day.

Time

I have found that the best time to do close ups and pictures of flowers is in the early morning and the late afternoon. The sun was low enough in the sky that day that I could position it behind the seed head.

Lighting

If at all possible, I use natural lighting. Early morning and late afternoons give the best shadows and colors, I think.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D3300.

Inspiration

I am always looking for different ways of seeing the world. I think, how would this or that look to a mouse or a bird?

Editing

I cropped the original down a bit so the focus would be on the sun flowing through the seed head.

In my camera bag

What bag? I carry my camera with me 90% of the time, every time I step out of the house. I've missed too many shots of birds and butterflies because I didn't have the camera on me and turned on!

Feedback

Don't take just one photo and call it a day. Bend down and look at what it looks like from this angle and that direction. Where is the sun? Take multiple shots from different angles. Do not be afraid to get down in the dirt for a cool shot!
