This is in fact midday in the so called dark time. We do not see the sun for two months now here in the Artic. It does not mean it is dark all day but on a day like this there is not much light about.

This image was created on the island of Senja Northern Norway.Time
It is actually midday in the so called dark time here inside the Arctic circle. Senja is about 300 kms North of the Arctic circle so its not so far North that its dark 6 months of the year. So many programs on the TV say that as soon as you cross the Artic circle its dark all day in the winter. That is just not true. The farther North you get the darker it gets. The North cape has about a week of total darkness. Thats another 1000 kms north from here. All though the sun does not rise for two months here its still light because its just below the horizon.Lighting
Arctic light is a very special thing even when the sun does not rise. Its actually my favourite time of the year. The light is so varied.Equipment
This was taken with my trusty Nikon d810. A tripod and 16-35 f4.Inspiration
I was driving about actually looking for good places for pictures. When I am doing that I like to drive down the smallest roads just to see what I can find. Some wonderful treasure can await discovery.Editing
I under exposed this so had to lighten the foreground somewhat. It brought the details in the old and rotting wood nicely. In my camera bag
I have an extensive collection now because I teach photography here in the Arctic now. A good tripod is very necessary. I don't leave home without it. I now have a D850 70-200 which I use for a lot of landscapes now. 16-35 f4.,14 f1.4, macro, 120-300 f2.8 and many more.Feedback
Don't be shy of bad weather. I think it can be much more interesting than blue skies. Just when its getting dark is also a favourite time of the day for me.
