STELLER JAY

These jays have a distribution that stretches from Alaska to Central America. They tend to prefer coniferous forests, often at higher elevations, although here in Anchorage they can be seen at sea level. They are omnivorous with a diet that includes small seeds, acorns, berries, insects, small mammals, eggs and chicks. They are known as nest robbers.
