Location
This was a senior client and she wanted an image of her blowing bubbles. So I created this for her at the end of her session.Time
My favorite time of day to shoot. It was July, so it’s really hot during the day. I took this an hour before sunset. Not only does it cool down, but the winds usually stop and the light is beautiful.Lighting
I also used an reflector to pop some light on her face. Normally I use a strobe outside, but this just needed a little reflector.Equipment
I position my clients 45 degrees from the sun so I don’t have to use a hair light. I shoe this with my Canon Mark III and my go to lens, the 85mm 1.2.Inspiration
My client asked for a shot of her blowing bubbles. I knew I wanted it to be in a landscape setting with the background blurred out. That way there would be more focus on my client.Editing
Honestly, there was very little done in post. The only thing added where the bubbles! She tried several times blowing actual bubbles and couldn’t get her face to relax. I told her to just relax and pretend she was blowing bubbles. I knew I could easily add the bubbles later.In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon Ds and my 85mm 1.2. Lately, I have been adding in my 70-200. I always carry my tripod for slow shutter speed shooting. A GoDox 600 with an Octobox and a reflector. Oh, and a 6 foot collapsible scrim.Feedback
Go out there and try, Do comparisons between photographing bubbles and not. For me, I was going for expression? So the bubbles were secondary.
