My daughter is one of my favorite subjects to photograph and also my most challenging. She had been asking for images of her with her beloved horse, Ande, who we thought wasn't going to make it this spring. We found the dress and she picked out the headband and the next day we made the 2 1-2 hour up to where we are keeping her horse and I photographed her with him. He has been her everything. The barn has been her refuge and escape from the daily drama of school and boys.

I always try to shoot with an octobox that feathers in front of my subject and put the sun at the back of my subject at a 45 degree angle.Equipment
I use a Canon Ds and I always shoot with an 85mm 1.2 prime lens. My 85mm lens looks awful but I love it. Its a work horse. I use GoDox 600's lights that I purchase from MoLight.Inspiration
My daughter is a horse rider and we always are photographing her with all her horses. I love photographing clients with their horses and even have a special tab on my website dedicated to equestrain photography.Editing
I really do as little post processing as possible on my images. I do fix stray hairs, a little bit of teeth whitening. But I don't want to over process my images or soften the skin too much. Especially when my subject has freckles like my daughter.In my camera bag
I keep it really simple. I always have my 85mm, my Canon camera, batteries, my trigger for my Go Dox lights and then I always carry two cans of bug spray (DEET and DEET free) and hair spray. That's pretty much it. And memory cards. Got to have memory cards.Feedback
When you are photographing horses, you have to stay relaxed. Your subject will get frustrated when s/he has expectations of what the horse SHOULD be doing, but has a mind of itself. You have to reassure your client and remind them to relax and breathe.
