Early morning sunrise, at Tunnel View, in Yosemite National Park, allowed me to capture this landscape shot, with a beautiful mystique.
Winds pushing smoke, from distant wild fires, into the valley, caused the smoke to settle into the valley floor. So, the beauty literally came from ashes (and smoke)!
Some fellow photographers were disappointed when the sun peaked over the mountains and the resulting haze obscured the more distant trees and iconic rock faces. I embraced it and stuck around for the sunrise and was not disappointed.
This photo is the result of merging of 5 different shots, captured through 5 varying exposures, in order to capture the full dynamic range. With the bright highlights and the dark shadows, I filtered the shots with a Graduated ND filter.
