When you first start taking beach and seascape photos, you can feel overwhelmed about what to focus on. There’s always so much going on around you, so it’s easy to get distracted. It’s helpful to find objects that help ground you and create balance in the image; much like the totem from Inception. ;-)

The next hurdle is capturing the movement in a way that makes the viewer feel what it was like to be present and observe the tide coming in and going out. Getting the timing of longer exposures just right can be challenging, as it’s not a setting you can duplicate every time, given the ocean tides are always in a state of flux.

My hope, in sharing these experiences, is to draw observers into the photo and make them come alive.
