When I arrived at Tunnel View, in Yosemite, the cloud cover was great. The shadows and highlights created a beautiful contrast on the valley floor and iconic rock faces. Despite the large crowds, I found the perfect spot to set up my tripod and start composing. Then, it hit me. Where is my tripod? I frantically searched the car, checking the back seat, under the seat, the trunk...nothing.

Immediately, my mind was retracing my steps and suddenly realized I had left my tripod at the hotel, in Mariposa. If I wanted to go back and get the tripod, it would be an 2+ hour trip back and forth. Uggghhh!!! I had no choice but to...gulp...shoot the scene hand-held.

I mustered up the muscle tension to stay as still as I possibly could, tempting fate by shooting this photo at a dangerous 1-50 second. I had no choice if I wanted to capture the beautiful light patterns.

Despite breaking the cardinal landscape photographer rule of "never forget your tripod", I am quite happy with he way this photo turned out. Phew!!
