The Wedge is a great intersection of adventurous surfing, interesting people, and observation of interesting people. This is a shot of a young Chinese woman watching a young man about to dive into a wave. I ended up meeting and talking with the woman. Sometimes photography is about more than observation and it becomes a way to initiate human connection.

In this shot, I liked the color mix of her yellow dress and black hair, the multi-blue waters, orange swim trunks of the young man making a break for the wave, the illuminated sand, and her shadow draped over the sand in a horizontal fashion.
