This photo was taken at my home in our backyard. We were outside playing by the swing set like any other day. I am a self taught photographer, so I try to capture anything that can be a new learning curve for me.Time
I remember this day.. It was September 26, 2017 early evening. The sun was out but in the mid stage of starting to set. It wasn't quite the "golden hour" yet, but shortly before. This is normally my favorite time to shoot so I will most likely have my camera with me.Lighting
Since we were outside, the lighting was all natural. There was a slight overcast here and there so the sun was not harsh at all times. It was a beautiful setting for the moment I captured and no other lighting was needed.Equipment
This photo was captured with my Canon Rebel T3i using my 50mm lens. I had my aperture wide open at F4.5, ISO was set at 100 and I had a shutter speed of 1/125 s. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
When my daughter told me she was OK after getting hurt and I was done comforting her, she became my inspiration for this photo. Well, her eyes to be exact. She said he was OK, but I could still see the sadness and the raw emotion lingering in her eyes. Then there was subtle light rays just lighting up her face and eyes and I knew I wanted to capture her face at that moment. I asked her if she would let me take her picture and she said sure. She just looked at me and I snapped the picture. I then told her I loved her, gave her another hug and told her everything was going to be ok.Editing
For portrait work I always do some post processing. For this image, I adjusted the white balance a bit, brought up the luminance under HSL to brighten skin and sharpened the eyes just a bit since that was my main focus. I also did a curves layer to bring in some contrast. Other than that, no other editing was done, being that I wanted that real moment to show. I didn't want to take anything away with over processing. In my camera bag
Being that I am an enthusiast, not quite the professional.. yet.. I do not have an abundance of equipment. I have my very simple rebel t3i body and my 50 mm 1.8. I never leave home without it. It's the best lens that can give me the best bokeh and light. Then I have my 100mm macro lens 2.8. I really only use that for the macro photography since it has no image stabilizer and I need the tripod to reduce camera shake. Then there are the 2 basic kit lens that came with the camera, the 18-55 and 75-300. I'm hoping one day I will be able to upgrade my camera and get some better lenses. A girl can dream... cant she?! :)Feedback
I try to use every moment I can as a learning and growing opportunity and I keep shooting no matter the outcome. I may see something that others don't in a specific moment. If you think it's worth photographing, then do it. Also, patience. Nothing comes right away. Take the time to learn your camera, to learn who you are and what you want to deliver when looking through that lens.
