Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in our backyard. I'm in a suburb in Northeastern Illinois. I remember it was a beautiful fall day and the girls and I were playing in the backyard.

Time

This was early evening, right around 5pm. The sun was mid sky and beautiful.

Lighting

The sun was close to setting and it was hitting her eyes perfectly. I thought the lighting was perfect so I used the opportunity for the photo.

Equipment

I just had my Canon and 50 mm lens on me at the time.

Inspiration

While we were playing on the swing set, my daughter somehow got hurt. She was crying and I was comforting her. You could see the sad in her eyes and how the light was hitting them so I just wanted to capture that moment. I asked her if mommy could take a picture of her pretty eyes and she said yes.

Editing

For this particular photo, I have a color and black n white version. I tweeked the color balance a little bit and did some dodge and burn. Also added a little sharpening on the eyes. That was about it.

In my camera bag

I have my Canon camera, crop sensor, and the lenses I carry in the bag are 50 1.8, 100mm macro, and the two kit lenses it came with. I occasionally rent an 85 or 70-200. My flash is also in there and my grey card.

Feedback

Always look for the beauty in things. Even if something is sad, there is still beauty.
