Location
This image was taken at Hole in the Wall at the Mojave National Preserve in CaliforniaTime
The time was planned around a new Moon night after midnight to get a dark skyLighting
The lighting is pretty basic light painting with a small Maglite from the left of the camera to create high light and shadow contrast.Equipment
The equipment used was a Sony A7rii adapted to a Canon 16-35 f4 lens, Tripod, shutter release and small Maglite.Inspiration
This area is very dark and there are Petroglyphs on the rocks so I wanted to combine the rock art and Milky WayEditing
Basic color correction, contrast and dodge and burnIn my camera bag
I carry my equipment in Pelican hard case inside is Sony a7rii, Sony a6500, Canon 16-35mm f4, Sigma 24-105mm art, Sigma 18-35 f1.8, Sony 50mm 1.8, Sony 85mm 1.8, Rokinon 20mm 1.8, Tamron 70-200mm 2.8, two Good 860vii flash and triggers, several memory cards, 7 camera batteries, shutter release. In my second case is a Flash Point AD 600 strobe, with 7 inch modifiers and 10-60 degree grids.Feedback
Find a dark sky with little light pollution and a new moon night. Use the magnification on the camera to find the brightest star and manual focus so its pin point. Use the widest aperture to get the most light and the highest ISO your camera can handle with a shutter of speed of 15-30 seconds.
