Incredibly gorgeous! The pinkish purple clouds and sun rays on the back hills are stunning.

Thank you we spent the whole night at this location finding a good composition in the dark to catch the sunrise.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot at Red Stone in Lake Mead National Recreational Area on Northshore Drive. It's a very easy accessible place with a paved parking area, restrooms and some trails. Your not limited to the pre made trails you can walk around any where and explore the many sand stone rocks

Time

I got to the location before sunrise and set up in an area that gave me several options to shoot.

Lighting

I knew there were going to be clouds this particular morning so I wanted to get there early to take the time through out the entire sunrise. I knew this particular area the sunrise causes all kinds of high lights and shadows due to the surrounding mountains and open spaces.

Equipment

Canon 6d, Canon 16-35L lens and tripod

Inspiration

I really enjoy this area and all the different options it provides for sunrise and sunsets. Mostly for this image I wanted to go here because the clouds were heavy in the area and hoped for something interesting

Editing

I shoot in camera raw and did color correction and sharpening in raw and Photoshop

In my camera bag

Canon 6d, Canon 16-35L mm lens, Canon 50mm stm lens, Tamron 70-300mm lens, Tripod, remote shutter, 4 batteries, (6) 32 gig memory cards and Samsung Tablet since the 6d has wifi to use for remote shooting and viewing images on a bigger screen.

Feedback

Sunrise and Sunset are typically best for lighting. I tend to go by the motto let the shot come to me and not go to the shot. I try to watch weather to see what clouds are going to be at locations I'm comfortable walking to while it's still dark to catch sunrise and dark after a sunset to safely get back to my vehicle. I've also found that about the time you think the chance for a shot is over don't pack up and leave until the sun is too bright or it's too dark. I've missed a lot of good shots after packed up and walking away.
