Behind The Lens

Location

This Photograph was taken in the Hawaii Volcano National Park. We had driven down a dirt road for ~ 6 miles then used mountain bikes to get to this site.

Time

We had driven from Hilo Hawaii at about noon and arrived at about 1330 hrs. to the vehicle parking area. It took us about 2 hours to bike to this area and after a short break we started a short hike to see the lava flows at about 1545 hrs. After this photo was taken we actually got a chance to hike up to see lava flows that were flowing down to the sea.

Lighting

The only light that was used was natural .

Equipment

The camera that was used was a Canon Rebel t3i ap-c sensor and a 18-135 mm canon lens. Didn't carry much equipment as the bike ride and and hike were kind of tough.

Inspiration

Since we decided to move to the mainland from Hawaii, the volcano started to erupt and keep erupting so we decided we better go see the flows before the volcano quit erupting . We had left Hawaii in 1986 and the eruption started before we left and continued for ~33 years.

Editing

The only thing that I did in a program call Mcphun HDR and Foto Photo Editor was to bring out the contrast before converting to jpeg

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon camera, various lines prime mostly and a tripod but on this excursion I only had a camera and one lens.
