Behind The Lens
Location
Western Grebes breed throughout California, Nevada and other western states. This one was in western Nevada.Time
This image was photographed just after sunrise. Got up about an hour before sunrise, got my gear together, got into a floating blind and waded out into the lake.Lighting
This was shortly after sunrise and the sun came up behind me. The morning light on the Grebes and the water was just beautiful.Equipment
This was shot with the Canon 7D Mark II using a friends 600mm Canon prime lens. A mount was attached to a platform in a floating blind (also belonging to my friend). With the 600mm lens and the 7D this is equivalent to 900mm.Inspiration
I love nature photography and just being outdoors and in nature is a great feeling.Editing
There was little or no post-processing, if anything it would have been a slight adjustment to levels. In my camera bag
I usually shot with the Canon 7D even though I also have the full frame 5D. I usually want to bring the subject closer to me and the 7D does that.Feedback
Shooting nature subjects takes time and patients. You need to learn as much as possible about your subject. Get out early and stay out late, whatever the animal does.
