Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken on the D601 in the south of Namibia just past the Canyon Roadhouse on route to the Fishriver Canyon view point at Hobas.
Time
It was about 7:30 in the morning. During the Namibian winter, that is still quite early.
Lighting
Just past the golden hour, the sun was still warm and low enough to create a dramatic image.
Equipment
This was shot with Canon 650D, EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 ISII lens. No other equipment was used.
Inspiration
Long gravel roads and open plains are part of Namibia. It is always a challenge to present these in an interesting dynamic way conveying the vastness and movement at the same time.
Editing
The picture was taken in RAW and I used Photoshop Elements to process the image. Nothing more than the basics.
In my camera bag
I normally pack my camera (Canon 650D) and the EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 ISII lens as well a EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ISII lens. Also in the bag I keep an spare battery, memory card and cleaning gear.
Feedback
Firstly as usual, one has to be at the location. I'm sure there are many places in the world where one can take a similar photo. In this case we actually stopped to take photo of an animal across the road. However when I turned around looking back (always look behind you) from where we came I saw this beautiful scenery with the dust from our car still lingering. I knew immediately that there was an opportunity for this type of shot, all it needed was another vehicle to pass by and a tour bus dutifully obliged. In Namibia winter is a good time for this type of shot as the crisp air gives beautiful clear blue skies. The cold air in the morning also lets the dust "hang" around.
