Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at our seasonal studio in a fair called Antibesland, the fair only opened at night so I used it during the day for other shoots

Time

It was mid day but we shot in studio settings so we could control the lighting

Lighting

We shot this with 2 speed lights one was in the camera hotshoe pointed to a large white poly-board just off camera to the left, the other was set on slave mode and pointed between her shoulders giving the edge light and hair light also setting the smoke apart from the background

Equipment

I shot this with my Mamyia 645 AFD with a leaf aptus 22 digital back, 80mm 2.8 lens and 2 generic speed-lights on manual

Inspiration

I love adding a sens of mystery, especially with Lingerie, glamour shots part of the appeal is what is left to your imagination, Playing with light and dark, still showing the texture of the smoke, the lace, the skin, the hair

Editing

The main post processing was done in Leaf capture, Played with the contrast and brightness, also fiddled with the sharpness and then of course did a "warm de-saturation", Really pushing up on the yellows and reds to get them more white than grey.

In my camera bag

For studio work I shoot medium format. Since this shot I acquired a Hasselblad so I shoot with the 80mm 2.8 or the 50-110 On the go I have my canon rebel, a nifty fifty and an 18-200, It's light and gets me by in most situations

Feedback

I talk allot to my models, coaching them, telling them what I am looking for in the shot... small talk and I don't warn them when I am clicking. Having the model arch her back and "suck her tummy into her rib cage" also helps give her long, toned features. Experimenting with light is also key I originally had the back light pointed at her head but didn't like the effect as much. Coconut oil on the skin is also great for getting the skin to glow for this shot
