While exploring a new area at one of my favorite wetlands, I spied a few plover picking in a shallow left by the early morning outgoing tide. I laid down and pulled my blind fabric over my body to shoot them; moments later, a snowy egret and three great egrets landed within a few feet of me. While most of them stayed focused on the deeper water to chase fish, this great egret wandered over to the shallows where the plovers were and began picking out leeches. In this shot, the egret had already caught the leech and was using movement momentum to maneuver the leech into a better position for swallowing.
