Location
This particular image was taken in a small town in the Spanish region of Murcia. I really do love this location as the rocks offer so many different capture opportunities and with the town in the background it makes for a great shooting location (its also very quiet so you dont have to worry about someone walking in front of your shot :-) )Time
The image was taken on a sunny January evening just after 6pm. Even though its in the winter months and the sun sets earlier at this time of year the days are often sunny and you get more clouds in the sky adding that little bit of extra contrast to your images.Lighting
I spent some time planning and setting up the shot as i wanted to get the sun going down behind the town to create a silhouette in the background. At the same time i needed the long exposure to capture the mist affect so used the ND filter to make sure i still captured the detail of the sunset and the sun beam across the sea and rocksEquipment
I shot this with my trusty Canon EOS 600D using the old faithful EF-S10-18mm Canon lens at 12mm. I also used a Hoya ND filter and my Manfrotto tripod due to the long exposure so i could capture the mist affect and the colours of the sunsetInspiration
Its just such a peaceful location and the way the sunet often shimmers across the bay and onto the wet rocks whilst the sea splashes and crawls over the rocks... i just love shooting there!Editing
I tried to keep processing to a minimum, so i tried to really concentrate on adding more atmosphere to the image to go with the mist by adding some contrast to the sky and then adapting the contrast to really bring out the sunbeam reaching out towards the camera across the bayIn my camera bag
My bags fairly packed, i usually travel with my Canon EOS 600D with a few lenses. (EF-S10-18mm/EF-S 18-55/EF-S 55-250) . Ill also carry my lens cleaning kit, some filters (namely ND filters), a torch, camera charging units, portable phone charger, camera remote and my Manfrotto tripod.Feedback
Patience... i think the sky really makes this picture and this wasn't my first attempt. I visit the location often and sometimes it would be too cloudy for a nice sunset, other times there would be no clouds to add contrast... eventually i got there... and i would encourage anyone wishing to do the same to try and be as patient as possible as we all know it can be frustrating visiting great locations and then the weather doesn't want to 'play ball'
