Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Natural Park River Duraton Sickles, in Segovia, Spain. It is a beautiful canyon that provides beautiful views, especially during the sunset.

Time

We arrived to the Natural Park early in the evening and the light was harsh, so we were waiting until the sun was near the horizon line, then the light became beautiful and soft. This photo was taken on March 19, 2017 at 7:18 PM.

Lighting

All the light in this photo is natural light coming from the sun.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D750 with a Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens. No other equipped was involved.

Inspiration

I have been many times in this natural park taking pictures and I have always come back with the feeling that the photos I had made were nice but they were missing something more ... I asked my girlfriend to pose for me in this beautiful place because I love the photos in which there are people integrated into nature. This photo has fulfilled all my expectations and to this day it has become one of my favorites.

Editing

I used Lightroom to process this photo. I applied lens correction, lifted shadows and added some contrast and vibrance. After that, I reduced the highlights in order to recover more detail and saturation in the sky. Finally, I used the adjustment brush to apply a warmer white balance to the sun and the horizon and to recover some shadows in the model´s dress.

In my camera bag

Inside my bag, I always carry my Nikon D750 body and the Tamrom 15-30mm f2.8, it is a heavy piece but I love it for landscape photography. Then I pack a second lens, a Sigma 35mm f1.4, I love this lens for general purposes (portrait, street, landscape…), I usually pack a Tamron 85mm f1.8 for portraits. Then I pack my Haida 150mm filter holder too and three different filters, Haida ND 1000, Nisi CPL and Nisi GND 8. I carry a remote shotter and a lightweight carbon fiber tripod. I also usually carry tissues to clean my lens when it is raining.

Feedback

My recommendation would be to choose one of your favorite landscapes and include a person in it to try to convey through that person the sensations that this place evokes to you, calm, mystery, loneliness, melancholy ... That person could be yourself, why not. Of course, as in any landscape photo, it is essential to wait for the right moment of light and in for this particular kind of photo even use artificial light to illuminate the model.
