Falls was named after James Mooney

Once all of us safely got down to the bottom of Mooney Falls, we took our time to enjoy the view from there. Some of us had been there more than once before. Some of us had never been there before. And it was my second time admiring this iconic waterfall and its vivid blue-green pool. It was rather chilly to jump into the water. As the Havasu Creek water simply drops about 200 feet below, it becomes Mooney Falls. The falls was named after James Mooney, a miner for minerals. He tried to rescue his injured companion by climbing the falls while his companion tied to his back, but unfortunately, he fell to his death.
