The Bahia Honda Railroad bridge was built in 1912 connecting Bahia Honda to Spanish Key, completing the line from the Florida mainland to Key West.
The bridge was severely damaged by a hurricane in 1936, the top deck was repaired and expanded for use of motor vehicle traffic in 1938, becoming the last stretch of US Highway 1
When a new four lane bridge was built in 1980, a truss span from each end of the railroad bridge was removed to accommodate boat traffic.

Well done, great use of sepia. A timeless photo. The whole length of the Overseas Highway is a trove of image opportunities that a lot miss on their way to Key West.
