This was taken in my backyard summer of 2016 in Williston ND.Time
I had just finished giving all of my flowers in the backyard a well deserved drink after a very hot August afternoon.Lighting
These flowers are on the east side of my house which was shading these particular flowers at this time of the day. The shadows provided a dramatic light, it wasn't harsh & didn't wash the colors out.Equipment
I had quickly grabbed my go to point & shoot, I needed it quickly as to not loose the light, used no filters and no editing. No tripod, improvised by using my knee while sitting in the grass.Inspiration
These sunflowers were in full bloom & I knew my daughter-in-law's favorite flowers are sunflowers. I decided to take this photo for her Christmas gift. I had it matted and framed using a purple mat to bring out the centers. It is still hanging on her wall today!Editing
No post-processing. One shot!In my camera bag
Right now I am in the learning stages of my fledgling career. I am saving to by a DLSR but for now I am using a point & shoot Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70. I believe that you don't need expensive gear to take a beautiful photo.Feedback
Don't worry about getting that 'money shot'. Capturing the simple moments, pay attention to the detail and color. Look for something that will evoke some sort of emotion, just getting someone to stop and say WOW is the shot you are looking for. Nothing is too simple or uneventful to photograph.
