Behind The Lens

Location

This is a set-up photo I took of my daughter in my 'garage' studio, with an old camera i bought at an auction for a prop.

Time

Morning.

Lighting

I used one LED fresnel light shining from above, and a desk lamp to add a small amount of backlight.

Equipment

Canon 1DX with a tripod, sheet of plastic propped on a 'workmate' bench with a plank of wood and some books to look like the inside of a house.

Inspiration

I had seen a set-up on youtube using a plastic sheet to look like a window and making it wet, so I thought I would try to create a 'retro' look with my daughter with some cats eye glasses bought off e-bay and an old camera, I think the water drops add something to the shot to make it interesting. This won top prize in my local photo club awards.

Editing

Just did a screen layer with the opacity turned down in PS of a shot I took at a skate park to look like a reflection.

In my camera bag

If wildlife shoot, Canon 1DX, 500 plus 1.4 extender and 50mm prime. Everyday 100-400 and 24-105. Studio 50mm prime, 24-70 70-200.Canon speed light 480 Sports 70-200, 300, 500.

Feedback

Use a low iso and around f10 for depth, and manual focus better as the plastic plays up with the AF generally.
