Happily checked it off of bucket list
After pulling ourselves up along the long cables for a good half hour, we finally reached the top of Half Dome. Although I’d say that it wasn’t dangerous, I could see how some folks suffer a nervous breakdown in the middle of it. All I could say is that one must start early to avoid any kind of traffic congestion as it gets more crowded later in the morning, let alone afternoon. The 360-degree view from the top was just mind blowingly spectacular. The view of Tenaya Canyon and beyond was even better from up there. The view of Mt. Starr King, Mt. Clark and beyond in the south side of Half Dome was almost unfathomable - just endless mountains. The valley view, with which I was most familiar, was probably one of the main reasons why one would want to climb this dome. Sentinel Dome peeked over Glacier Point. Behind that slope, Cathedral Rocks rose. Across the valley from the rocks El Capitan rose 3,000 feet straight up and Eagle Peak wasn’t too far from it. Right below me, I saw from the Upper Pines Campground, where we stayed, all the way to Camp 4, where one may start a hike to the top of Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Point. The latter point was also seen from where I stood. And even the Tunnel View was clearly visible from there. I happily checked Half Dome off of my bucket list.
