Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in woods not far from my dad's cottage in Moscow Region, Russia.

Time

It was around afternoon - not my favourite time of the day for taking pictures but it was snowing hard and I wanted to use my chance to have some shots that will remind of this beautiflul time of the year.

Lighting

I really loved how falling snow looked as opposed to the dark fir trees. I found a little spot of light right before the shadow from the trees that made my little model stand out from the dark background.

Equipment

I used my Canon 6D camera and my new favourite Canon EF135mm f/2L USM lens

Inspiration

I was inspired by the nature and the magical time of the year. I love this place that reminds of my carefree childhood and the happiness of walking in a fluffy snow that I was feeling as a child.

Editing

I used photoshop for my post-processing. I wanted my image to look a bit darker, my whites to look colder and my model to look lighter, so I played with blending modes and color balance.

In my camera bag

I always shoot with my Canon 6D camera and Canon EF135mm f/2L USM or EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens.

Feedback

When it starts to snow grab your camera and get outside! In a park or woods look for light spots. When you find one place your model in this spot. Analize how light lays on model's face. You can create beautiful magical shots if your model is well lit and surrounding is dark and mysterious.
