Good documentary shot. Disturbing and interesting at the same time.

When you first walk into the market you see fish cut up etc.it did not bother me. But, when we walked into the beef area and see the head and liver of big animals there was a different kind of feeling. Experience different cultures was a reward.

I would have a hard time too. Might even think about giving up meat.. It’s good to doc this thought ..

After a photo safari in Tanzania my family and I went to exotic Zanzibar for a couple of days. This photo was taken in an open air meat market in Stonetown, Zanzibar. Quite an eye opener walking into an area full of shoppers and workers were there is raw meat laying on tables.Time
The photo was taken around 11:30 in the morning.Lighting
Natural light coming in through wide doors and high small windowsEquipment
I used a Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 18-250mm lens. Did not use a tripod or flash.Inspiration
The ability to show other family members and friends how other cultures live day to day. Also, for me personally to remember this exotic moment.Editing
Only making sure contrast is okay.In my camera bag
Filters, Nikon SB-600 flash, battery chargers, several SD cards, mini-tripod, Nikkor 18-55mm lens to use with close-up attachments, additional camera, a Tokina SD 11-16mm lens, Sigma 150-500mm lens and camera/lens cleaning supplies.Feedback
It depends on the moment. In a place like this market it can be crowded and there is not a lot of space to set up to get that special shot. So you cease the moment and hope for the best. The specific shot had a table full of recently chopped meat and no one standing around the area. So it was perfect to get just the subject. There were other tables where the worker was chopping. This normally would be a good action shot but people where crowded around the table and the ability to get the action and the subject was not there.
