Behind The Lens

Location

Flying into Zanzibar airport in Stonetown, Zanzibar from Tanzania Africa. Me, my wife, son and daughter-in-law had just completed a fantastic photo safari in Tanzania Africa. What an opportunity it was. Now we were going to relax in exotic Zanzibar.

Time

It was almost 3 p.m. and is probably my second favorite photo taken in Zanzibar. The water in the area we were staying was unbelievable.

Lighting

Photo taken shooting down through a window of a twin engine prop plane. No special lighting support was used just the natural lighting available to me.

Equipment

I used my iPhone 5 because I could not have my camera out loose in the plane.

Inspiration

The fantastic color of the water and the red roof popped. I had an opportunity and I took advantage of it.

Editing

Nothing special. Just took out as much glare and haze as possible.

In my camera bag

My main camera, Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 18-250mm lens. I carry also a Nikon D50 with a Sigma 250-500mm lens. Also, a Nikon Flash, UV and polarizer filters, cleaning items too. I also have a mini-tripod. If on a car trip I will take my tripod and monopod.

Feedback

Always watch for that special opportunity and subject. Use what equipment you have available and go for it! Some photographers spend hours waiting for that special shot. Unfortunately, I have not had the time or patience to get that shot. I have been very lucky to get spare of the moment photo opportunities and the shot came out great.
