In a hot air balloon taking photos of a couple of hot air balloons in our group. This was over the Serengeti in Tanzania, Africa.Time
It was 8:41 in the morning and a little cloudy. But, who cares about the clouds. I am in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti with my wife, son and daughter-in-law on a most fantastic trip. Plus, clouds can add to a photo.Lighting
As mentioned it was early morning and a little cloudy. Being in a hot air balloon at the mercy of the wind I could not control my position to get the best lighting. Therefore, I would wait for other balloons to flare up to get that pop of light.Equipment
I used a Nikon D50 with a Sigma 18-250mm lens. No other equipment. We were limited on what we could bring on the balloon.Inspiration
Being in a hot air balloon over the wilds of the Serengeti of East Africa. Then seeing a flare from heating flames of another balloon. So I waited for another flare up to take the shot.Editing
Not really. Just taking some haze out.In my camera bag
At the time of this trip I had the Nikon D50, Sigma 18-250mm lens and a Sigma 150-500mm lens and a Nikon Coolpix 5700 for my wife to use. Now, in addition, I carry a Nikon D7000, Nikon SB-600 flash, Phottix wireless transmitter, a mini-tripod, bean bag, back up San Disk cards, various filters, a Nikkor 85mm micro lens, cleaning kit, extra batteries, and battery chargers. Depending on the situation I may take along my Nikkor 70-300mm lens and a Nikkor 18-55mm lens as back-up. Also, a head flashlight with a red light to use in the dark and a bubble level that attaches to the flash shoe.Feedback
In a hot air balloon with other people a person is limited in what they can do. The weather controls, to a certain extent, where the balloon goes. If you have not been there before you really do not know what to expect. The purpose for our taking the balloon ride was to see African wild animals from the air. Which we did! The sun was behind the clouds so at the beginning of the ride we did not see the sunrise. Work with what natures gives you and see what unfolds.
