Location
A local band lent us their practice space for a few hours. The studio was filled with instruments, amplifiers and other equipment. Steph is not a drummer, but she look right at home with sticks sitting on the stool.Time
The practice studio is in the basement of a larger communal artists studio. The time of day was early evening, but all light was controlled with strobes.Lighting
The image was lit with a single Alien Bee. Bee's are typically used in photography studios, but I like to take mine on location shoots. A small battery pack serves as a weight to keep the stand steady as well as powering the strobe.Equipment
I use a Canon 5d M3 with at 24-70 F2.8 L for many of my shots, but I am not afraid to take an image with a point and shoot or even a phone camera.Inspiration
This image was spontaneous. Just some friends hanging out and making some images for fun. Before walking into the practice studio, I had no idea about what was in in the room or on the walls. I enjoy this type of in the moment creating. It is fun to let your imagination run and see where you arrive.Editing
Post on this image was limited. I removed any minor skin blemishes and adjusted a contrast and exposure to my liking. In my camera bag
I have two bags, the EVERYTHING bag and the traveling light bag. The everything bag weights 50+ lbs. The light bag has camera, 2 lens and a spare battery. It all just depends on plan and the mood.Feedback
Have and adventure. Do something expected, then do the opposite. Failure is a required step toward success.
