This photo was taken at the Denver Zoo in December of 2016. It was pretty cold that day and there weren't many guests there during the day, nor were there many animals out and about. However, as I made my way to the Big Cat enclosure, this curious fellow made his way up to the glass. I hadn't realized that I took this particular photo until the next day when I uploaded all of zoo photos to my computer. Suffice it to say, this was one of those "lucky shot" days.Time
This is one of my favorite, if not my best photos to date. Probably because of it's candid nature. I took this photo in the late afternoon/early evening, no later 5:30pm mountain time.Lighting
As I stated above, this photo was very candid and a surprise to me as well. However, I tend to leave my camera on Aperture priority with the lowest f-stop as possible. I didn't use any special lighting, nor do I use photoshop. All I used was the natural evening light that Colorado is lucky to have. The soft winter light made the colors of this Cat pop and I could easily focus on the animals facial features.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with a 75 - 300mm lens.Inspiration
For years I wanted to get a great photo of a wild animal. I have had some luck with that, but only with wild birds that lived in the area. I wanted more, so I took a short trip to the zoo where I could find many creatures to photograph. This photo is special to me because I was able to get close, and be able to take a fantastic shot through glass, which is not an easy feat!Editing
No, I don't actually use post-processing with any of the photos that I take.In my camera bag
The only equipment that I have is my trusty EOS Rebel with the kit lens and a 300mm zoom lens as well. I am a firm believer that it not the tool that makes the art, but the artist who creates with said tool.Feedback
I am lucky enough to live in a place that experiences at least 300 days of sunshine. However, Colorado can also be a tricky place to take photos regardless of where you are taking them. The weather here can go from 75 degrees and sunny to below freezing and snowing in the same day. So be over-prepared if need be. I like to do a lot of research on how to get the best photos with the equipment that I am working with. So before going out photograph anything, I look up what f-stop, aperture and ISO I should have my camera at.
