Location
This photo was taken in Savannah, GA - this historical site is located on Skidaway Road, as one is leaving the business/medical district of Savannah; Skidaway takes the traveler to the Isle of Hope, an Island community of Savannah. This is an historical preserve, and it is part of what used to be Wormsloe Plantation, established by colonial settler, John Noble. At the time I took this photo, I had started on a cemetery project, which I am still putting together in my spare time; I had discovered a small cemetery approximately a half a mile before this site, which I took pictures of. I then, out of curiosity, drove down the road and stumbled on this scene. I had been quite new to Savannah, and before this shot was taken, I had been absolutely unaware of this State Historical Site. I just knew I had to snap a photo of it. Later, I came to find out an oil painting of this very scene had been done by an artist by the name of Scott McKay in 2013.Time
The time of day was around 4 p.m. in late Spring.Lighting
The afternoon light coming through the trees brings a wonderful enhancement of this scene/picture. These Oaks encompass the driveway like a tunnel, and their greenery, allowing only a certain amount of sunlight in, produces the atmosphere.Equipment
This was taken with a Nikon Coolpix 100 - no other equipment was used.Inspiration
I just fell in love with the scene itself. I have plenty of photos of the oaks with Spanish Moss encompassing them, which are lovely, but this scenery took me back to a time before automobiles - and I love how the Oaks create that canopy over the road; they form a natural 'tunnel' that I find alluring, and I was hoping to capture the beauty that is Savannah.Editing
In this case, I did not do any post-processing.In my camera bag
At this juncture, I am still such an amateur photographer, that I do not know much about lenses, other than the one that is already attached to my Coolpix 100 Nikon!! I am a novice, but intend on learning more about lenses, as I do want to expand on what I am doing.Feedback
In Savannah, being that we are on the coastline, time of day, to me, is highly important. In so many instances, on the coastal region, the lighting can undoubtedly make or break pictures such as this. I have tried to shoot during the summer, outside, and away from shading, and I cannot tell you how many shots I have had to discard because of my novice nature. I am still learning on when, where and how to shoot in the extreme sunlight, particularly in the late Spring and Summer months over here. So, my advice, learn about lighting, as I am still having to do now. And learn your equipment. So many of the bad shots I've taken are not only just about time of day, but about learning one's equipment. As a novice, I still have a way to go on this, but the number of horrible shots I've taken are a direct result of not being 'up to par' on my equipment. We all will have bad days, but live and learn.
