The theater Began its construction in 1891, When the city lived its heyday with the Rubber Cycle. The latex extracted from the rubber tree, was super valued in foreign markets and made Manaus one of the most prosperous cities of the team. Nothing fairer than having a room height, where rich families Could see, be seen and have fun. But the works took place very slowly and only began to walk, in fact, in Eduardo Ribeiro government that ended up bringing architects, painters and sculptors of Europe to work in the construction of the theater and also made several other improvements in the city. The inauguration took place only in 1896 with the opera Gioconda, which also baptizes the small cafe theater.

The architectural project was the Portuguese Cabinet of Engineering and Architetura Lisbon and the decor was by Crispim do Amaral account.
