Resistance - art between light, shade and the Xirixana people - forms part of this contemporary art, no longer being the photograph of the late nineteenth century and the commercial ethnographic records of the postcards of the German photographer George Heubner (Georg Augst Eduard Hubner ) Who photographed indigenous people in Amazonas, Roraima and Peru and traded cards for travelers and supplied the curiosity of European scientists.
Photography at the turn of the century appears as a milestone in the connection between contemporary art and the art of photography, raising the idea that art will extract from the knowledge of photography unique possibilities of renewing its creative processes.
The exhibition arises from the need to preserve the forest and its people, in this case, the Xirixanas of Alto Mucajaí in Roraima. In the last six months I have followed the continuous deforestation of the Amazon rainforest in the television and printed newspapers. The forest is not a space or life only for Xirixanas, but for the world, but Xirixanas are suffering from illegal mining in the region and other parts of the Amazon with the extraction of endless wood. (A recent exhibition that talks about the people of the forest, deforestation, extraction of wood, flying rivers, art, Integration of the Macuxi and Xirixanas people and the indigenous artist Jaider Esbell.)
