The animal symbol of freedom, which inhabits the plains of Roraima, the wild horses that arrived in Brazil around 1718, with the Portuguese colonizers, are threatened by the burning and deforestation, which destroy their natural habitat, and the crossing with other Races, which has contributed to its decharacterization. It is estimated that there are 1,500 animals of the species today.
Experts say they are fascinated by the study of this animal that the horses of Roraima do not have the elegance of noble breeds, such as long-sleeved walkers or English Thoroughbreds, but gain gallops in resistance. During the drought, great distances go to find water, and in the rainy season, they stay up to four months with their feet immersed in water. The breed was even known as a hard foot, by the resistance of their hooves.
