Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in a studio near Florence one evening when I dedicated myself to light painting

Time

It was October 25, 2016 and it was around 11pm when we set up the pumpkin table

Lighting

We placed the lamp sideways to the pumpkin and lit a candle inside the pumpkin cut out for use. We did not use any other lighting to create complete darkness in the room

Equipment

For this photo I used my Nikon D5 equipped with 24-70 Nikkor. Iso 100; aperture f.16 and 35 seconds of exposure with the use of tripod and remote shutter release.

Inspiration

There was no real inspiration. It was a planned shot to be made that evening. The same evening we also shot light painting with seasonal fruits and homemade foods. It was a nice evening with friends!

Editing

As post-production, after the development of the raw camera raw file to rebalance the lights with the shadows, I slightly increased the vignetting with lens vignettes of Colorefex and after I removed the slight disturbance created with the lightening of some areas of the photo with Dfine

In my camera bag

In my bag are now present my two camera bodies (Nikon D850 and D5) together with the Nikon triad composed from 14-24; 24-70 and 70-200 (all f2.8). The photographic easel and also the Nikon 85. This is my standard equipment always with me.

Feedback

Difficult to give advice for a photo like this. This is a picture that must be thought first to provide the necessary equipment. The realization then, it is quite simple and does not require particular precautions or particular fantasies. In short, it reflects all the known photographic rules: easel stand, long times, low iso and closed diaphragm.
