One of the tiniest flying creature, the damselflies have beautiful patterns of compound eyes. This shot was taken when the damselfly was lazy enough after a big meal and didn't hesitate to pose for the camera.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was clicked at Lodi Garden, New Delhi, India.

Time

I generally go to this Park in the heart of India's capital city in early morning hours. However, this was taken just before I was leaving the park at around 10:00AM.

Lighting

This cute little fella was inside bushes. Hence, lighting was an issue for sure. Though, my external flash did a great job there and filled the frame with ample exposure.

Equipment

Nikon D5200 + Tamron 90mm VC Macro Lens + Sonia Manual external flash mounted on hotshoe

Inspiration

I always wanted to go as close as possible to tiny subjects. This was probably the best at that time which I managed to get. A complete front shot with both eyes in sharp focus showing the endless compound eyes was my inspiration.

Editing

A little bit of post processing like crop, exposure correction, sharpness, contrast was performed on Adobe PS CS6.

In my camera bag

Nikon D5200 + Tamron 90mm VC Macro Lens + Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm VR Lens + Sonia Manual external flash mounted on hotshoe + Diffuser

Feedback

Always pre-visualize what you are going to shoot. That way, you will always avoid having distracting elements in your frame and also, if this is practiced in true spirit, you may not required cropping your pics at all. Be a pro in your own methods! Cheers :)
