This photo was taken just outside the boundaries of Victoria Park in Kitchener, Ontario. The train line runs past the back end of the park.Time
The photo was taken at 8:10 am just as the Sun was beginning to break through the remnants of the night's before ice storm clouds in a deep cold stillness.Lighting
The lighting was initially dull and subdued by the cloud cover of the risen Sun, but just as I approached the railway tracks, the Sun broke through with a small but intense ray of light. The result was a scene bathed with a very subtle pinkish glow, while bringing up the hi-lights of the light dancing on the branches.Equipment
This photo was taken with a Canon 7, hand held with the ISO set at 1000, compensating for the hand held and low light, I used a Canon EF-S18-55 set at 34mm, with a speed of1/250Inspiration
After taking various photos of ice cover trees, bushes, benches and statues found in the park, I decided to check out the area of the 'official' park grounds. Here I found the set of railway tracks with a line of trees on both sides. The whole area was covered in a coat of ice left behind by the night before ice storm and the morning mist. The railway tracks gave a nice leading line to focus off into the back edge of the photo, while the trees gave a subtle sense of framing. All in all, the setting was probable to give a fairly decent photo, but it was the sudden appearance of the ray of light and the scene being lit up in the soft subtle pastel pinks that gave excitement to the photo.Editing
I did some minor editing with Lightroom. I raised the contrast very slightly to bring up the definition in the rear where the railway tracks disappear into the trees, I brought the highlights down slightly regaining some of the blowout caused by the Sun's ray coming through the clouds and to slightly soften the tone of the pastel pink.In my camera bag

I now carry a Canon EFS 10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM, a Canon EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, a Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II, (or a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS depending on need) or a EF-S 18- 135 mm f/3.5- 5.6 when there is a need for a greater range.Feedback
Look for the special lighting resulting from weather disturbances that are normally missed as the results may far outweigh the slight bodily discomforts felt in their pursuit.
